Under the hood, the Japanese buyers get either the 2.0L or 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine coupled with either a manual gearbox or a five-or six-speed automatic transmission and AWD is optional on the base FWD model. American and European specifications have not yet been announced, but the Americans can expect Mazda's 3.7L V-6 and automatic transmission driving the front wheels, and we probably will not model the car.

Besides upgrading the suspension for what Mazda calls a "premium quality" drive, the company also has a number of electronic safety devices. Along with active head restraints and adaptive HID headlamps, the 2011 car is hill start assist in manual models and a distress signal system that the emergency lights flashing during emergency braking and the Mazda Pre-Crash Safety System, which objects detected in the path of the car and can apply the brakes and turn the seat belt is optional.
